We welcome talented and motivated researchers who are excited about building and using trapped-ion quantum systems. The QITI Laboratory is based at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo.
Who we are looking for
We regularly host:
- Undergraduate researchers and co-op students
- Graduate students (MSc and PhD)
- Postdoctoral fellows
- Collaborators
Undergraduate researchers
We accept undergraduate researchers through the following pathways:
- Co-op positions (posted through WaterlooWorks)
- IQC USEQIP summer internships (Students outside U Waterloo can also apply through this program)
- PHYS 437 projects (U Waterloo Physics & Astronomy students)
- Volunteering opportunities (U Waterloo students)
MSc and PhD students
You should apply to the Physics or Physics (Quantum Information) graduate programs in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. Priority is given to applicants with strong hands-on experience, ideally in an Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics laboratory.
Postdoctoral fellows
Priority is given to candidates with a strong background in AMO physics, especially those with experience relevant to trapped-ion systems.
Collaborators
We collaborate with theory groups and experimental teams across multiple areas. Please reach out if you have ideas for collaborative projects, such as quantum simulation experiments you would like to run on one of our processors. We also welcome industry collaboration opportunities.
How to apply
Email Prof. K. Rajibul Islam with:
- A short statement of interest (what you want to work on, and why)
- A CV
- For graduate applicants: an unofficial transcript (recommended)
- For postdoctoral applicants: a short research statement and two to three references
If you are responding to a specific opportunity, mention it in the subject line.
